Because Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a region where many rivers run, visitors can also find a large number of covered bridges. You will see them around along rural road, crossing a stream or a river. They were built like so to preserve them from bad weather. This is why you can, nowadays, admire them in all their splendour and in their original state.
In the Abitibi area, you can see the Levasseur bridge, which was built in 1928 to cross the Macamic River. It is located in Authier-Nord on Rang 9. The La Calamité bridge, for its part, was built a year earlier, in 1927, in La Sarre, above the Desméloises River, on 4th Avenue. Still in La Sarre, on the same Avenue, the Leclerc bridge, also built in 1927, crosses the Bouchard River. The île Nepawa bridge, for its part, was built in 1946 on Rang 2 in Clerval to reach the Nepawa island in lake Abitibi. Finally, the Émery-Sicard bridge, built in 1946, crosses the legendary Harricana River on 1st Street in Amos, in the Pays des forêts area.
All these bridges are nestled in enchanting scenery that present breathtaking and beautiful landscapes. You can cross them by foot or by car, photograph them, or take advantage of the green spaces that surround them to have a picnic with your family.
