Amos is the oldest municipality in Abitibi. More than 12,000 years ago, the passage of glaciers left eskers that give today pristine water to the municipality, which is considered like the paradise of fresh water. It is possible to visit the municipal well and the Maison du tourisme de la region de l’Harricana, which presents an exhibition on the history of the aqueduct system development. When you are in Amos, take the time to enter the romano-byzantine style Sainte-Thérèse-d’Avila cathedral. Its Italian marble and its French windows will impress more than one visitor. For those who like horticulture, visit the Jardins Saint-Maurice where there are more than 1,000 varieties of perennial plants and bushes in more than 15 gardens filled with exquisite colours and smell. Finally, the Refuge Pageau takes in wounded, orphan animals or those in difficulty and gives them shelter until they get better. Those who cannot take care of themselves stay in the shelter so come and make friends with one of them!
